In the heart of the Prato textile district, for over a century Comistra has carried forward a mission of excellence and sustainability: regenerating fabrics and giving them a new life. The story begins in 1920 with Alfredo Tesi, a pioneer of regenerated wool, and continues in 1951 with his son Rolando, who founded the company Com.I.Stra – Commercio Importazione Stracci – launching a business that would become a benchmark for the circular economy.
In the 1980s, Fabrizio and Cinzia, together with their father Rolando, introduced new technologies such as carbonising and rag-tearing, refining product quality and projecting the company into the future. Today, with the arrival of Alberto and Alice, Rolando’s grandchildren, Comistra is a modern company that looks ahead with innovation and passion, a leader in the production of high-quality recycled yarns and fabrics. Artisan tradition blends with sustainable industry, guaranteeing unique products that respect the environment.
Comistra is synonymous with recovery and transformation: every day, in our Prato facility, we give new life to textile waste and used garments through a cutting-edge regeneration process. It all begins with the manual sorting of rags, divided by colour, composition and fineness, minimising the use of dyes and chemicals.
The recovered fibres are then processed to obtain recycled yarns, intended for carded spinning and the creation of top-quality fabrics. Our production process is rooted in artisan tradition but enhanced by a sustainable industrial approach. Our energy comes from the sun thanks to our photovoltaic system, and our commitment to the environment extends to the recycling of wastewater, thanks to our collaboration with the Gida consortium.
